What Crossdock touches, which way your data moves, what it costs, and what happens if you leave.

Getting started

Do I have to move off Square POS to sell on Shopify?
No — that's the point. Crossdock exists so Square stays at your register exactly as it is, and Shopify becomes your online storefront. Square remains the source of truth for your catalog; Crossdock moves changes through to Shopify automatically. You don't migrate, you connect.
I already sell online with Square Online — why add Shopify and Crossdock?
Square Online is a solid starting point, and for many sellers it stays the right answer. The merchants who add Shopify do it because something specific mattered enough — native subscriptions, Shop Pay's mobile checkout, the app ecosystem, drops and pre-orders, international selling. Crossdock is the sync layer that lets you take those without giving up Square at the register. The full comparison is on the Features page .
What can Crossdock touch when I first install it?
Almost nothing — installs are read-only. At install, Crossdock requests read permissions (products, inventory, orders, locations) so you can explore catalog mapping and preview a dry-run import without a single change to your store. Write access is a separate approval that Shopify asks for only when you click Enable sync — and even then, every first sync can be previewed before Crossdock writes anything. The full scope-by-scope breakdown is at OAuth scopes .
What does setup actually involve?
Seven steps, and you can stop at any of them without having changed your store. Install (read-only), connect Square, pick the location you're syncing, review the products Crossdock matched to your existing Shopify catalog, set your markup, read the dry-run plan, then run the first sync. Everything before that last click is either read-only or previewable. The full walkthrough is in Getting started .
I already have products in Shopify — will Crossdock duplicate them?
No. Before creating anything, Crossdock scans your existing Shopify catalog and matches it against your Square items — on SKU first, on barcode when a SKU is missing — so matching survives product titles and handles that have drifted apart. Clean matches are pre-selected, partial matches and conflicting identifiers are listed for you to decide on, and nothing is written until you confirm. Your current Shopify prices are preserved as per-variant markups, so adopting doesn't re-price your store. This is the same path merchants take when they move over from another sync app.

How sync behaves

Which direction does my data sync?
Different data moves in different directions, on purpose. Catalog structure — products, variants, modifiers, SKUs — syncs one way, Square → Shopify; Square is the source of truth. Inventory syncs both ways for non-modifier items: a Square register sale drops your Shopify count, a Shopify sale drops your Square count. Items that use Square modifiers are the exception — their counts aren't synced. Orders go Shopify → Square on paid plans, so your POS reporting includes online sales. The per-field table is at How sync direction works .
How fast does inventory update after a sale?
Within seconds. Crossdock is webhook-driven — when your register rings, Square notifies Crossdock immediately and the Shopify count updates. There is no polling schedule, so there's no minutes-long window where an online buyer can purchase something you just sold in-store.
What happens if I edit a synced product in Shopify?
Crossdock detects it and asks — it never silently overwrites you, and it never silently keeps your edit either. You get a notification banner naming the exact product, with two choices: confirm the change (for prices, it becomes a saved per-variant override that future syncs respect) or let the next sync restore the Square value. If you dismiss the banner without confirming, Square wins on the next sync — Square is the source of truth for catalog fields.
Can I charge different prices on Shopify than in my store?
Yes — that's built in. Crossdock never copies the Square price straight across; it computes your Shopify price from a markup formula you control: Square price plus a percentage or fixed amount, rounded up to a clean number (no rounding, nearest $0.05, or .99 endings — always rounded up, so you're never undercharged). Individual variants can carry their own override when one product needs different treatment.
Do my Square modifiers — sizes, milk types, add-ons — survive the trip to Shopify?
Yes, on every paid plan. Square modifier lists sync to Shopify with their structure intact, and priced add-ons ("Extra shot," "Large size") are charged correctly in the Shopify cart using Shopify's Cart Transform Function — the customer sees the right total before checkout, and your Square order receives the correct line-item amounts. Pro keeps up to 3 modifier sets synced (a set is one Square modifier list, however many options it holds); Premium and Scale are unlimited.

Pricing & plans

How much does Crossdock cost?
Four plans, billed through Shopify. Free — $0, up to 5 products, with catalog sync and two-way inventory sync (non-modifier items); no credit card. Pro — $19/month: up to 1,000 products, plus order sync to Square (up to 100 orders/month) and priced modifier sync for up to 3 modifier sets. Premium — $39/month: up to 2,000 products and 1,000 orders/month, plus unlimited modifier sets, gift card sync, multi-location inventory sync, and priority support. Scale — $79/month: everything in Premium at the highest volume, up to 10,000 products and 3,000 orders/month. Every paid plan includes a 14-day free trial. Order sync switches on once Shopify approves Crossdock's access to order data (protected customer data). Full plan detail: Plans & what each unlocks . Need higher limits than Scale? We also build custom Enterprise plans with custom product and order limits and pricing to match — email support@crossdock.app .
Do gift cards sync?
On Premium and Scale, yes — with clear boundaries. Digital gift cards you issue in Square are mirrored into Shopify with the same code, and balances stay in step both ways, with Square's balance always the authority. Not covered: physical cards, cards issued before you turned gift card sync on, and cards created directly in Shopify (those are flagged, never silently copied). Cards over $2,000 aren't mirrored. If the same card is redeemed on both sides at nearly the same moment, Crossdock can't prevent it — no sync system can lock a card across two platforms — but it detects the drift and raises a critical alert. Details: How gift card sync works .
I run more than one Square location — can I use Crossdock?
Yes, from the Premium plan ($39/month) up. You map each Square location to its own Shopify location, and each pair's stock stays in sync separately. On Free and Pro, Crossdock syncs a single Square location to your Shopify store; adding a second mapped location is what Premium unlocks. The full table is at Plans & what each unlocks .

Your data & privacy

What happens to my data if I uninstall?
Your Shopify store keeps everything. Products already synced are not deleted — Crossdock only removes the data it holds in its own database. At uninstall, Crossdock's Square access is revoked immediately; roughly 96 hours later (Shopify's ~48-hour redaction window plus a 48-hour Crossdock grace period), all shop-scoped sync data is permanently purged. Reinstall within that window and your sync mappings are restored; after it, a fresh install starts clean. Full detail: Uninstalling & your data .
What does Crossdock store about my customers?
Almost nothing, by design. Crossdock does not store customer names, email addresses, shipping addresses, or payment details in its own database. Customer data passes through only at the moment an order is pushed to Square and is never persisted. What Crossdock does keep: Square↔Shopify ID mappings (identifiers only), content hashes for drift detection, your sync configuration, and an append-only audit log — all on US-based infrastructure.
Is Crossdock GDPR-compliant? Can I get a DPA?
Crossdock implements all three of Shopify's mandatory GDPR webhooks (customer data requests, customer erasure, shop erasure) and answers data requests within the 30-day GDPR window — and because no customer PII is persisted, erasure is simple: order-level identifiers are purged and there is nothing else to delete. Audit logs are retained 24 months, then auto-deleted. A Data Processing Addendum is available from day one: DPA · request a signed copy · Privacy policy .

Getting help

How do I get help, and how fast will you answer?
Email support@crossdock.app, or use the support link inside the app. We aim to respond within 24 business hours, and most replies land the same day during US Pacific business hours; Premium and Scale merchants get priority routing. What we don't offer, plainly: no phone line, no in-admin live chat, and no 24/7 coverage — a weekend message gets answered the next business day, while sync itself keeps running regardless. Channels, hours, and what to include when you write in: Support .
A product didn't sync the way I expected. Where do I look first?
Start with the activity log inside the app — it records every create, update, skip, and failure, searchable by product name, so you can see what Crossdock actually did with that item. Then check your notifications: if someone edited that product directly in Shopify, there is a banner waiting for a decision. If neither explains it, the per-field rules are in How sync direction works , and we're one email away.
